New Bike Trails at the George Mitchell Nature Preserve Three (3) miles of bike trails have been added to the original two (2) mile trail loop at the Flintridge Drive trailhead of the George Mitchell Nature Preserve along the Spring Creek Greenway. The natural-surface, sustainable, single track trails were designed by Talon Trails. The trails were made possible from a grant from REI which was sponsored by the Greater Houston Off-Road Biking Association (GHORBA). The grant was matched by The Woodlands Development Company and Precinct 3. Volunteers from the Woodlands Cycling Club and Boy Scouts of Ameria Eagle projects helped to finish clearing the trails. These volunteers also helped re-open the trails which were blocked when many trees fell during Huricane Ike. Click here for a printable copy of the new trail map. George Mitchell Nature Preserve Grand Opening The dedication and grand opening of the 1,700 acre George Mitchell Nature Preserve was held on the 33rd anniversary of the opening of The Woodlands, October 19, 2007, along with the dedication of The Woodlands Village of Creekside Park. A half-mile nature trail, one-mile down and back, was opened off of Creekside Forest Drive just west of Gosling Road. A rustic, two-mile hiking trail loop, which is being created off of Flintridge Drive, will open in late February. The George Mitchell Nature Preserve is a joint effort of The Woodlands Development Co., Montgomery County Precinct 3 Commissioner Ed Chance's Office, The Woodlands Association and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Recreational Trails Grant Program.
